CMOG Release Plan

July 14, 2003

The Ontario Museum Association continues to follow up with the Ministry of Culture regarding the release of the 2003 Community Museum Operating Grant (CMOG) money. At the OMA's request, the first 80% of the CMOG program money will be released early to recipient museums and the final 20% will be sent out once the application process is complete.

According to the Ministry of Culture, their plan is "to have the CMOG grant recommendations for the first 80% installment for all reviewed applications for governance and the conservation standards, and eligibility to the Minister's office by the end of July." The Ministry is working towards having the cheques released at the end of the summer, possibly before Labour Day, with the remaining 20% to recipients before the end of September.

The Minister of Culture, David Tsubouchi, has confirmed that this 80% / 20% format will be institutionalized from this year forward. The OMA welcomes this program improvement and has asked that this be accompanied by a practice of sending out and processing CMOG applications earlier.
