Celebrate Heritage Day
By visiting the new OMA website!
February 21, 2005
The Ontario Museum Association is marking Heritage Day with the
launch of its new website at www.museumsontario.com. Visitors will
see a new colour scheme and design format, along with new features
that make the site easier to navigate and find information.
New features
· Each page highlights Ontario's museums with a different museum
image
· A new site search engine makes accessing resources easier
· The What's New section has been expanded to include heritage
and OMA news
· A Spotlight section showcases different features found
within the website
A new section called Visit
Ontario's Museums has been added to the website. Items in
this area include the Guide to Ontario Museums, Museum Events and
Featured Museum.
· Guide
to Ontario Museums
The online Guide to Ontario Museums has a new look. Listings now
include photos and a museum location map. The Guide is also linked
to the newly expanded Museum Events database. By clicking on the
Events link in a museum's Guide listing, visitors can see all the
activities happening at that museum.
· Museum
Events database
The May is Museum Month database is now an all-year event database.
OMA members can add events throughout the year, not just for the
month of May. The entries in the Events Database are also linked
to the online Guide to Ontario Museums.
· Featured
Museum
The OMA will periodically highlight a member museum in this new
section. The Sudbury Region Police Museum, one of the OMA's newest
members, is currently featured.
The OMA works hard to provide valuable member benefits. Inside
the Member
Resources section, members can access an expanded collection
of materials that are easier to locate:
· The Resources
subsection is organized by the new Ministry of Culture Standards
· The Job Posting database and Cultural Management Portal
have the new website look
· Currently,
the member newsletter, is available online in a PDF format
· The member password system is still in effect but look for details
on a new system soon
The OMA offers its many thanks to Web Designer Cheryl Corson, Database
Programmer Simon Wallis and Communications Program Manager Sarah
Palmer. We also extend our thanks to the OMA Council and the many
people who took the time to test the website. The OMA gratefully
acknowledges the support of Cultural
Careers Council Ontario (CCCO), the Cultural
Tourism Marketing Fund and the
Ontario Ministry of Culture.
We continue to work to improve the OMA website and welcome your
comments and suggestions. To reach us, please visit the About the
OMA, Contact
section at www.museumsontario.com.
