Museum Standards Sessions offered this fall

August 23, 2004

Dear Museum Colleague:

The Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Ontario Museum Association is pleased to announce that it will again be offering a series of training sessions to introduce new museum standards.

This fall we will be presenting sessions on three standards (Community, Human Resources, and Physical Plant) that the Ministry will be assessing in 2005. You should attend these sessions if you are:

  • a recipient of a Community Museum Operating Grant (CMOG)
  • interested in becoming eligible for consideration of CMOG funding
  • or want to apply these provincial standards to your community museum

We are planning a series of eleven, day-long training sessions (see list below for locations and dates). We are pleased to announce that three of these sessions will be offered in French. The sessions will provide guidance on what is required to meet the provincial standards. In addition, sessions will include presentations and materials from subject practitioners on good practice, as applied to community, human resources, and physical plant standards.

An additional opportunity to follow-up with questions about the Ministry presentation will be possible at the OMA's Annual Conference session in Peterborough on Thursday, October 21, 2004, at 3:15 p.m.

Space for the workshops is limited (we recommend one staff person and one Board member), so please mark on your calendar the session nearest to you.

Registration

Contact Rebecca Desa at 416-348-8672 (toll-free in Ontario 1-866-OMA-8672) to confirm your attendance. Details about the locations will be provided upon registration with the OMA. If you have further questions about these sessions, please contact the museum advisor for your area:

John Carter (416) 314-7151 South Western Ontario/North Western Ontario

     Daniel O'Brien (416) 314-7160 Metro Toronto/Niagara Region

Elka Weinstein (416) 314-7152 Eastern Ontario/North Eastern Ontario

We look forward to having you participate in this series of professional development opportunities.

Yours truly,
