ACCOUNTING FOR NON-ACCOUNTANTS (online)   
Mode Three

The seminar version of this course is planned as a one-month workshop (6 instructional hours plus one month access to web-based course content). Participants will complete the self-study materials and evaluation, plus participate in weekly online chats to explore course content as a group, and to apply it to the specialized needs of specific groups within the museum sector. Space is limited to 12 participants.

This is the first of two courses which deals with the subject of preventive conservation. The artifact is examined and described in terms of material, manufacture, and condition. Types and causes of deterioration are also identified.

FRONT OF HOUSE: PLANNING MUSEUM FACILITIES FOR VISITORS

T his workshop will offer tips, suggestions and case studies on designing or modifying museum entrances, reception areas, small museum gift shops, food service, and yes, even restrooms, to make them more welcoming for visitors and more functional for staff, volunteers and visitors.

WORKSHOP: THE ART OF MANAGING PEOPLE

People are our greatest assets in the arts and heritage sector.
Learning how to get the best out of people is the objective of “The Art of Managing People”. The workshop focuses on three areas of Human Resources Management, interviewing, motivation and performance feedback. Participants will be given the opportunity to experience conducting interviews, and giving and receiving feedback. We will learn the key elements of motivating people, how to bring a great team together, and how to keep people engaged.

WORKSHOP: HERITAGE FACILITY PLANNING I

This Canadian Conservation Institute workshop examines the planning involved in the redevelopment or creation of heritage facilities.
It covers the various parts of the planning process: market analysis, program options, role of collections, space requirements, site selection, staffing, and budgets. It also deals with setting priorities, what information is needed to make decisions, assigning human resources for the planning process, and use of consultants.
