CANADIAN WAR MUSEUM

May 12, 2005

This military canteen, found in the old Vernon Militia Drill Hall, is now part of the Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum collection. On May 12, the canteen was displayed at the Museum's booth, and staff from the Canadian War Museum confirmed that the canteen is a "bullseye pattern" constructed of hot dipped rolled tin and issued by the U.S. army for civil war federal forces in 1862. The canteen was possibly removed from an unfortunate American raider during the Fenian uprisings around 1870.
