MAY IS MUSEUM MONTH

Each year hundreds of events take place at Ontario's museums during the month of May. This province-wide celebration is co-ordinated by the OMA - for more information, visit the May is Museum Month website.

 
 

MAY 13

WORKSHOP: THE ART OF MANAGING PEOPLE

People are our greatest assets in the arts and heritage sector. Learning how to get the best out of people is the objective of “The Art of Managing People”. The workshop focuses on three areas of Human Resources Management, interviewing, motivation and performance feedback. Participants will be given the opportunity to experience conducting interviews, and giving and receiving feedback. We will learn the key elements of motivating people, how to bring a great team together, and how to keep people engaged.

MAY 26 & 27

WORKSHOP: HERITAGE FACILITY PLANNING I

This Canadian Conservation Institute workshop examines the planning involved in the redevelopment or creation of heritage facilities.
It covers the various parts of the planning process: market analysis, program options, role of collections, space requirements, site selection, staffing, and budgets. It also deals with setting priorities, what information is needed to make decisions, assigning human resources for the planning process, and use of consultants.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS [ CMS ]

Particpants will learn to create museum exhibits and labels which attract and hold the attention and interest of museum visitors, and communicate information clearly, while adhering to safe museum practices of display and preservation of artifacts. .

Examine the museum's role in education and learn the effective use of resources. Learn to formulate education policies and develop successful public programs.
