Objectives
These awards are designed to
- recognize outstanding contributions to the Ontario museum community,
with emphasis on innovation;
- advance the museum profession in Ontario;
- encourage high standards of excellence in the museum field.
Criteria
These awards are given for achievements of community, provincial
or national significance by an individual, institution or organization
involved in the museum field in Ontario.
Categories
Award of Excellence
The OMA yearly Award of Excellence will be presented to individuals,
institutions or agencies who have demonstrated an outstanding and
significant contribution to the Ontario museum community during
a period of time of no more than 2 years prior to the deadline for
the receipt of nominations for that award year. A maximum of five
(5) Awards of Excellence will be presented in each award year.
Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence
The OMA Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence will be presented
to individuals who, over an extended period of time, have made a
significant contribution to the Ontario museum community which has
resulted in a lasting and meaningful legacy accomplished through
such things as innovation, dedication, leadership and the effective
use of available resources. A maximum of one (1) Lifetime Achievement
Award of Excellence will be presented in each award year.
Corporate Service Award of Excellence
The OMA Corporate Service Award of Excellence will be presented
to a corporation which, over an extended period of time, has made
a significant contribution to the Ontario museum community which
has resulted in a lasting and meaningful legacy accomplished through
such things as innovation and/or the donation of financial and human
resources. A maximum of one (1) Corporate Service Award of Excellence
will be presented in each award year.
Eligibility
Award winners are not required to be members of the Ontario Museum
Association. The Award winner(s) may be posthumously acknowledged.
No member of the OMA Council or the Awards of Excellence Committee
is eligible in the year of service. To be eligible for an Award
of Excellence, the achievement must
- have been completed in the year 2006 to 2007;
- exceed the current standard of museum practice;
- set a useful example;
- and demonstrate innovation, creativity and leadership, as well
as effective use of available resources.
Nominations
Each nomination must be forwarded and seconded by individual or
institutional members of the OMA. Nominators and seconders may be
affiliated with the institution of the nominee. Self-nominations
are acceptable provided all other requirements are met. All nominations
will be received in confidence.
Documentation
When making a nomination, please describe the outstanding achievement
in sufficient detail to inform members of the Awards of Excellence
Committee who may not know the nominee or his/her work. This description
should be factual and concise. All nominations must be accompanied
by a completed nomination
form.
