The Ontario Museum Association, with the support of the Museums and Technology Fund of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), continues to deliver Professional Development opportunities to members of the museum community, reaching out, East, West, and North.

A reminder that Museum Technology Regional Forums are scheduled for the following dates:

• Sault Ste. Marie – August 23, 2010
• Sudbury – August 27, 2010
• Dryden – September 10, 2010

To register or host a Regional Forum in your region or with your museum network, contact Catherine Richards, Special Projects Coordinator, at catherine@museumsontario.com

Also, we wish to remind members that the OMA can offer Regional Forums and on-site training in French, so spread the word to colleagues in your area! While in Sudbury, the OMA will be delivering training to the Centre Franco-Ontarien de Folklore on August 25th and 26th.

Catherine RichardsCatherine Richards, Special Projects Coordinator, and Rhiannon Myers, summer experience staff, will be delivering the Forums that consist of a Sector Update and Information Exchange, followed by a hands-on workshop in digitization and museum technology. Workshop participants have the opportunity to experiment with the OMA’s photography equipment and studio, learn database management tips, and obtain procedures for using post-production image manipulation software.

Online support is provided pre-workshop with the use of iCohere, an online community of practice platform, where downloadable resources are posted, along with case studies and links. It is updated regularly with news of innovative projects in museum technology.
