WHAT IS THE LEARNING LAB?

The Learning Lab is a professional development approach and innovative training environment that will provide Ontario’s museum and heritage workers, students, life-long learners and volunteers, with specialized training using technology.

WHY SUPPORT THE LEARNING LAB?

Because it’s your future!

The Learning Lab will lead the OMA and Ontario’s museum sector into the future by enabling museum workers to produce creative content that showcases and celebrates our culture, heritage and history.

Hosting training for small groups on-site and online, The Learning Lab will be a comfortable physical and virtual learning environment where members, regardless of their location in the province, will acquire new skills that will help to position museums for greater participation in Ontario’s competitive cultural marketplace.

WHAT YOUR COLLEAGUES ARE SAYING ABOUT OMA SPECIALIZED TRAINING

I appreciated the tips and extra knowledge bites along with the grant advice. The workshop will help me gain employment as I may have extra skills and knowledge others do not.
Claire Bennett, Collections Conservation and Management student, Fleming College

I feel much better equipped to take on my institution’s digitization project.
Jennifer Withrow, Maclaren Art Centre

We have been able to increase the accessibility and visibility of our collection by posting our records online. We are thrilled with the responsiveness, friendliness and helpfulness of the OMA.
Liz Driver, Campbell House Museum

We wanted to begin a digitization project and weren’t sure where to begin and what standards should be in place for consistency. I now have those tools available to assist us in planning our project.
Melissa Cole, Oshawa Community Museum

Great work! This workshop was very beneficial since we are about to start digitizing our collection. It was wonderful that part of it was available in French!
It helped us increase our visibility through posting artefacts on Artefacts Canada. It also helped us gain skills such as the best practice to use when digitizing our collection.
Janik Aubin-Robert, Museoparc Vanier Museopark

We all gained much-needed, and very practical knowledge of digital image management – skills we can now easily apply to our current practices/staff.
Pamela Woolner, Meaford Museum

The OMA helped us increase access and visibility of our collection and gain technical skills.  The training will assist in demonstrating our active involvement leading up to applying for grants.
Michael Wallace, Theatre Museum Canada

Training helped us discover what types of equipment and software is needed to properly digitize our objects.
Pamela O'Neill, Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre
