New Ontario Minister of Culture and Tourism

January 18, 2010

Today's Cabinet shuffle sees Michael Chan, MPP, Markham-Unionville, appointed as the Minister of both the Culture and Tourism portfolios. He replaces Aileen Carroll, MPP, Barrie, as Minister of Culture.
Monique Smith, MPP, Nipissing, former Minister of Tourism, becomes the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and remains Government House Leader.

From the Office of the Premier:
Michael Chan becomes Minister of Tourism and Culture. He will work to establish Regional Tourism Organizations in regions across Ontario and promote Ontario's natural beauty, vibrant cities and towns, and thriving cultural attractions to visitors from all over the world. He will also lead our efforts with Ontario's cultural industries to create new jobs and opportunities for Ontario families.

With these changes, Premier McGuinty brings new players to cabinet, positioning his government for the next elections. Dwight Duncan, MPP, Windsor-Tecumseh, remains Minister of Finance.

In light of this cabinet shuffle, it will be especially important for the OMA to renew links with Minister Chan, who attended and met with constituents at last year's Ontario Museums at Queen's Park Day.

The upcoming Ontario Museums at Queen's Park event, scheduled for February 25, 2010, will present the OMA with the opportunity to meet the new Ministers. Members will be kept nformed as planning continues.
