Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why has the Ontario Museum Association changed the membership
program?
A. After reviewing the recent membership survey, the OMA has come
up with new categories and benefits that better address changing
member needs. These categories were approved at the Annual General
Meeting on October 20, 2006. In addition, the Association's membership
fees have not been increased in 10 years, while the programs and
services offered have evolved greatly. The new fee structure better
enables your Association to carry out work that meets the needs
of our members and the Ontario museum sector.
Q. When will the new program be implemented?
A. The new membership program comes into effect on April
1, 2007. If your institution is municipally-owned, and would like
to pay your membership fee before year-end, you can contact Rebecca
Gunness at the OMA for information.
Q. What is the difference between a "Museum/Cultural
Worker" membership and a "Colleague" membership?
A. A Museum/Cultural Worker membership is available to an individual
who is working or who has been working in a paid or unpaid capacity
in a museum/cultural organization in Ontario. A Colleague membership
is available to individuals employed at an institution that is a
member in good standing of the Association.
Q. My membership comes due between January 1, 2007 and March
31, 2007. At what rate do I renew?
A. The new membership rates come into effect on April 1, 2007. If
your membership is due between January 1, 2007 and March 31, 2007,
you can renew at the old membership rate.
Q. I am a museum consultant, and my business is small. What
new benefits do I receive?
A. The OMA is implementing a new online commercial directory for
consultant members, as well as ad bundles to benefit your business.
Consultant members will receive these benefits in addition to the
others listed in the Member Benefit Chart.
Q. I am a corporate member. What benefits will I receive?
A. The OMA is developing advertising and other opportunities to
benefit your business. As well, the OMA website will provide all
corporate members with links to their organizational sites, for
ease of search by members and potential clients.
