OMA hosts Museum Sustainability Project Sector Focus Group in Toronto.

(PD) OMA begins work on "translating" two additional CMS courses ("Care of Collections" and "Collections Management") and the popular "Accounting for Non-Accountants" workshop into online formats. This was possible by funding through MAP and SIF and educational partnerships with CHIN and CCI. Click here for the 2007 Professional Development Calendar.

(A) OMA meets with the Ontario Ministry of Culture to discuss a number of initiatives, in particular the sectoral needs information project, with a focus on museums and their organizational health. Read more

With contributions from Margaret Atwood, Michael Redhill and other top Canadian writers, this informative guide offers expert advice, learning experience suggestions, museum listings, and museum gift ideas for families, tourists and avid museumgoers. (A) OMA sends a letter to Minister of Canadian Heritage Beverley Oda regarding delays in notifications for Museums Assistance Program (MAP) and Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program (CAHSP) applications. Read the letter
 
August 2006
(A) OMA undertakes comprehensive survey of museum governance, human resource and financial structures as part of the Trillium-supported Sustainability Project.
(A) Minister Oda replies to the OMA's July 21 letter, saying that the Department is making every effort to ensure that funding decisions are communicated to applicants as soon as possible. She also mentions that she has "asked departmental officials to continue to work with heritage organizations to develop a renewed vision for the role of museums in the 21st century". September 2006
(A) OMA meets with Ontario Culture Minister Caroline Di Cocco to request the province increase CMOG funding by $5 million and to recommend an additional $5 million for Ontario museums currently excluded from the CMOG program. Minister Di Cocco:
*confirms her belief in the vital role that museums play in education, cultural tourism and in the community
*emphasizes that museums need to continue to increase their community relevance
*promises a quicker turnaround for CMOG grants
*mentions future multiple-year funding commitments

(A) OMA Council petitions the Government of Ontario to:
*allow Ontario museums to access other provincial support programs (eg. OAC, and Trillium Foundation)
*augment annual sustaining funding for the OMA

(A) OMA presents to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance regarding the cuts to the Museums Assistance Program (MAP) of the Department of Canadian Heritage, and encourage the government to proceed with a new National Museums Policy.
(A) OMA presents to the Minister's Advisory Council for Arts and Culture (MACAC), to seek endorsement of the OMA's request to the Provincial government asking for increased support for Ontario's museums.

OMA presents The Colloquium on Learning in Museums VIII in conjunction with the Museums and Galleries of Grey and Bruce Counties. The event is a forum to explore and share current happenings in the field of museum education. Read more

(PD) OMA announces Collection Database Project which, with support from CHIN, will provide some training and support for selected museums that are interested in updating their collection record-keeping systems. Read more
